A stunning pair of 18th Century black silk, satin weave ladies shoes were given to us by the National Trust for conservation treatment. The silk was embellished with brown corded ribbon, stitched in place with silk thread.
The silk ribbons were fragile and fragmentary, and had become detached in several places. We realigned each ribbon and stitched them in place using a fine conservation thread.
We also cleaned, humidified to reduce the creasing and faced any frayed edges with matching materials.
